LA GUERRA DE LOS MUNDOS , the universal novel of science fiction written by Herbert George Wells, which describes a Martian invasion of the earth. Adaptations to different media have been made from Wells novel: films, radio programs, video games, comics and television series.

The story of the novel takes place in London in the early twentieth century. The protagonist, a speculative science articles writer, visits an Observatory in Ottershaw by invitation of a "notable astronomer" called Ogilvy. There are witnesses of an explosion on the surface of the planet Mars. Years later, what is created a "meteor" lands in the communal field of Horsell, near London. The narrator has his home nearby, and he is one of the first to discover that the object is an artificial cylinder launched from Mars. The cylinder opens, and marians emerge from it: bulky creatures similar to giant octopus that begin the creation of foreign mechanisms in the cylinder impact crater. A multitude of humans move towards the crater and are incinerated by the caloric ray.
